Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information the AI-Powered Daily Quran Chrome extension (the “Extension”) and its supporting backend service (together, the “Service”) collect, how it is used, and the choices you have. We have designed the Service to collect the minimum amount of information necessary to display verses of the Holy Qurʼān and related explanations.

1. Information we do not collect

• We do not require you to create an account or sign in.
• We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, IP address, location, browsing history, or any other personally identifiable information (“PII”).
• We do not use cookies, advertising identifiers, analytics SDKs, or third-party tracking pixels.
• We do not sell, rent, or share any user data with third parties.

2. Information stored locally on your device

The Extension may use the browser’s chrome.storage API to remember your preferences (for example: preferred translation, last viewed verse, UI settings). This data is stored on your device only and is never transmitted to our servers.

3. Information processed by our backend

When the Extension requests a verse, translation, chapter list, or AI explanation, it sends a request to our backend API. These requests include only:

• The verse or chapter identifier you are requesting (for example, 2:255).
• For the explanation endpoint (POST /tafsir) only: the verse text, the optional question you typed, and a tafsir excerpt used as context for the AI model.
• A shared extension_secret header used to prevent unauthorized clients from abusing the API.
• The chrome-extension://<id> origin sent by your browser for CORS verification.

Request and response payloads are processed in memory to fulfil your request and are not persisted in a database or logged with identifying information. Standard, short-lived platform logs (for example, on our hosting provider) may temporarily contain the request URL and HTTP status code for security and reliability purposes; these logs do not contain personal information and are rotated automatically.

4. Third-party services

To deliver the Service, our backend forwards your request to the following third parties. We do not share any personal information with them, and we only send the data strictly necessary for the feature you used:

• Quran.Foundation Content API — used to retrieve Qurʼānic verses, translations, tafsir, and chapter metadata. See the Quran.Foundation Privacy Policy.
• Google Gemini API — used to generate short AI-assisted explanations of the requested verse. Only the verse text, tafsir context, and your optional question are sent. See the Google Privacy Policy.
• OpenRouter (fallback) — used only when Gemini is unavailable or rate-limited, with the same minimal payload as above. See the OpenRouter Privacy Policy.

These providers may process the content of your request in accordance with their own terms. Please review their policies for details on how they handle data.

5. Permissions used by the Chrome extension

The Extension requests only the minimum browser permissions needed for its features (for example, storage to remember your preferences and host_permissions for our API host). It does not read or modify the content of web pages you visit, and it does not access your browsing history.

6. Children’s privacy

The Service is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us so we can promptly remove it.

7. Data security

All communication between the Extension and our backend is performed over HTTPS. The backend restricts access to requests originating from the configured Chrome extension ID and validates a shared secret on Quran data endpoints.

8. Your choices

• You can remove all locally stored preferences by uninstalling the Extension or clearing its storage from chrome://extensions.
• Because we do not maintain user accounts or personal records, there is no separate account to delete on our side.

9. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
